Santa Barbara, CA

Santa Barbara, CA - continued

We took the "Red Tile" walking tour of downtown Santa Barbara past all the elegant buildings housing the courthouse, library, museums, etc.

......and of course, lunch on the plaza.....note the pastries in the background!

Rancho Oso - in the hills above Santa Barbara, CA

This Thousand Trails preserve is in the middle of a working horse ranch.
We fell in love with the vistas of the canyons and Santa Ynez mountains, along with the proximity to the wine growing region and beautiful Santa Barbara.

Hiking trail to the falls.....

Mountain bike trail Rick took.....
.....up on top looking down at the RV park.

We thought Higgins would like to model his designer boots, but instead he appears mortified...
who can blame him!

The Pinnacles National Monument - San Benito, CA

Pinnacles National Monument - continued

The trail we chose took us through the caves, up and down and all around; sometimes you could see where you were hiking and sometimes you couldn't!!

Pinnacles National Monument - continued

The steep climb out of the caves.......into daylight!

Only the young would jump into that cold, cold water.......

Pinnacles National Monument - continued

What beauty!

A funny thing happened on the way back to the car.......

The excitement never ends..... this one was waiting for us back at the motor home!

Henry Coe State Park - Morgan Hill, CA

When entering the park for a day of hiking, we encountered a coyote sauntering across the road. We asked the park ranger if we were likely to find other wildlife on the trail and he informed us we could count ourselves lucky if we came across a mountain lion.....

We were lucky alright..... no mountain lions visible!!

Lots of mistletoe hanging on these old oaks.

Henry Coe State Park - continued

In the photo below you will note a woodpecker (known as an Acorn Woodpecker) on this old gnarled oak. He was making so much noise and working so hard, we took a closer look and discovered hundreds of holes already drilled into the bark with acorns stuffed into many of them!

Impressive preparation for winter!
